Manchester United host rivals Manchester City in what promises to be an exciting and highly-charged Premier League clash this weekend.
United come into the game in good form, having won all six of their matches since the World Cup while keeping five clean sheets. Erik ten Hag’s side have plenty to prove, having lost three in a row against City, including a 6-3 thrashing in the last Manchester Derby in October.
“It was a lesson, we took the lesson and from that point on we have made huge progress, so we have to continue the progress,” Ten Hag said of that game, which included hat-tricks for Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. “That game was a setback, we can all find reasons why, but it is always about having to act, to deliver.
“As a manager, a coach, you have to go through certain steps, you need a clear philosophy, a clear point where you want to go, a direction. Then it is about development and that is what we did, but like many things in life, and particularly football, there is never an end point.”
United are fourth in the Premier League and can cut the gap to second-placed City down to a single point with a victory at Old Trafford. They will face a highly-motivated opponent, however, with City coming into the match after being dumped out of the Carabao Cup in a surprise 2-0 defeat by Southampton on Wednesday.
