A dad has been praised for issuing a stark message to fathers who "hate on" Taylor Swift for supporting her boyfriend Travis Kelce. The American singer-songwriter started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end in mid-2023 - and now jets across the world after her Eras tour performances to watch his Chiefs games.

Swifties have shared their support for Taylor's romance, with some even turning out to football games just to catch a glimpse of the happy couple together. However, she and her fans have faced their fair share of criticism too, prompting one concerned father to send a message to dads all over the world - 'we need to do better'.

In a TikTok video, user Author Robert People said: "Those of you people out there, especially grown men, expressing all this nasty, ridiculous hate for Taylor Swift just for existing and supporting her boyfriend in the NFL, keep in mind, Taylor Swift’s not gonna see or hear any of that," he said in the video. "But you know who will? Your daughter."

He went on to explain how daughters might start 'hiding' themselves, their interests, and their true feelings after watching their parents outwardly reject things they like. He added: "And with all this juvenile hate you’re showing Taylor Swift for simply being there, you’re encouraging your daughters to shrink themselves, reduce who they are.

"Because if they do anything more than that, if they just decide to be themselves, they’re gonna get a whole lot of hate from not only the world but from people just like you: their own parents. We need to do better, straight up.”

Speaking to Today, he commented on how his 16-year-old daughter perceives the negativity thrown at Taylor and her fans. He added: "My daughter watches football with me and pays attention to everything I do," says People. He says when girls hear complaints over Swift attending a football game they might hear, "Everything that Taylor Swift is, I can't be."

Expanding on the issue, he says parents are teaching their children it's OK to openly 'hate on' others and their impact through their negative words. He added: "It's wrong to treat anyone this way. If you don't know much about her, then don't say anything. She's a human being and people reduce her humanity."

Praising him for speaking up, one user commented: "Taylor Swift hate is just targeted misogyny poorly disguised as pop culture critique." Another user added: "If you are upset Taylor Swift is shown during the game, you are a soft and insecure man."

A third user said: "My boyfriend has been hating on Taylor Swift hella hard lately and it’s made me realize I don’t want kids with him, especially girls." One more user added: "The only reason Taylor Swift is on anyone’s 'hate list' is because she is raising the bar to political awareness for her fans!!! They are listening!"
