Jurgen Klopp has no shortage of admirers as a result of the remarkable job he's done at Liverpool since moving to the Premier League back in 2015.

When the German arrived at Anfield, Liverpool were are at a low point - they've since gone on to win the Premier League and the Champions League during Klopp's tenure and are have re-established themselves as one of the English game's leading lights.

Klopp announced last week that the 2023/24 campaign will be his last at the helm but he'll walk away from Liverpool in the summer with a reputation as one of Europe's leading coaches.

It says everything about the impact that Klopp has had on Merseyside that even Kylian Mbappe, the Paris Saint-Germain superstar and long-term Reds target, has waxed lyrical about the former Borussia Dortmund chief.

"What Liverpool do in this moment is amazing," Mbappe told the BBC back in 2020. "They're like a machine, they've found a rhythm and are like we play again, we play again. They've lost zero games. When you watch you think everything is easy but that's not easy. The guys are focused, they play games every three days and they win, they win, they win.

"Now the problem is that everybody watches Liverpool, and everybody watches what we can do against them, so now they have to show they are strong again but it's a very good team with a very good manager."

While Liverpool and Mbappe have been tentatively touted as a potential match again amid speculation over the Frenchman's future, if a deal does come to materialise in the coming months, Klopp won't be around to oversee it.

Confirming the reasons behind his departure, he explained: "I can understand that it's a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.

"I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.

"It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.

"After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth – and that is the truth."
