McLaren star Oscar Piastri has cheekily asked if he has "missed anything" after going out on a run on Thursday morning.

Piastri asked the question as the F1 world descended into meltdown following the reports that Lewis Hamilton would be joining Ferrari for the 2025 season. Hamilton is currently driving for Mercedes, but has not won a race for two years.

With the end of his career on the horizon, the British star appears to have decided to end his time as a driver with Ferrari. Hamilton will join the Scuderia for the 2025 season, becoming Charles Leclerc's team-mate.

The move has come as a major shock to fans, pundits and even Hamilton's fellow drivers. Piastri has taken the opportunity to capitalise on that shock by jokingly asking social media what had been happening.

Just over an hour after the news of Hamilton's move broke, the Australian tweeted: "Just been for a run. Have I missed anything?"

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is expected to hold an all-staff meeting on Thursday to inform them of the news. Official confirmation that Hamilton will be joining Ferrari is expected to follow soon after.

The seven-time world champion has two years left on his current deal with the Silver Arrows, which signed last year. But Ferrari have had a long-standing interest in the 39-year-old, even as he struggled for wins in recent seasons.

Hamilton will see out the coming season with Mercedes before make the switch to Maranello. Wolff will now have to search for a new team-mate for George Russell, though Hamilton's decision to move is a sign he believes Ferrari are better placed to deliver race wins.

While the news has come as a shock, Hamilton has long been linked with a move to Ferrari. Back in 2021, he described driving for the Scuderia as a long-held dream of his.

He said in 2021: "For many years, when I came to Monza, walking next to the fans, I could hear them saying, 'Come to Ferrari!' This warmed my heart, but it's pretty amazing that I've never driven for Ferrari in so many years.

"Because it is a dream for anyone, a goal to be achieved. It was never really been possible and I will never quite know exactly why. I wish them the best and in my near future I hope I will continue to prevent them from winning the world championship. I have a couple of Ferraris at home. I can drive those, but not the Ferrari F1."

Former F1 star Martin Brundle is delighted to see Hamilton's long-awaited move come to fruition. He said: "I’m so looking forward to this. We’ve asked him for years about it and he seemed nailed on at Merc for life, and always dismissive of moving. Hamilton and Leclerc in scarlet, that’s a story."
