Son who beheaded father is 'latest in string of conspiracy theory violence'
A man who claimed he was the "Second Messiah", accused of beheading his "traitor" dad on YouTube, is the "latest in a string of politically motivated violence", an expert has warned.
Justin Mohn, 32, has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and possessing an instrument of crime with contents after allegedly killing his dad, Michael Mohn.
The Pennsylvania suspect was seen in a gruesome right-wing conspiracy theories YouTube video entitled "Mohn's Militia - Call To Arms For American Patriot" wearing gloves and holding his dad's head in a plastic bag. Later on, he can be seen placing Michael's head in a cooking pot after labelling him a "traitor" during the 14-minute video.

Michael Mohn was found by his wife, who then called the authorities (Facebook)Police said it appeared he was reading from a script as he encouraged violence against government officials. Michael Mohn was a federal employee and an engineer with the geoenvironmental section of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of our teammate Michael Mohn. ... Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mohn family and we are focused on supporting our grieving employees at this time,” the district said in a statement. It referred any further questions to law enforcement.
Police said Michael Mohn’s wife, Denice Mohn, arrived home and found the body about 7 p.m. Tuesday. Officers found the body, a machete and bloody rubber gloves, according to a police affidavit. Denice Mohn told police her husband’s white Toyota Corolla and her son were missing.
In the video posted after the killing, he described his father as a 20-year federal employee. He also espoused a variety of conspiracy theories and rants about the Biden administration, immigration and the border, fiscal policy, urban crime and the war in Ukraine.
Javed Ali, Associate Professor of Practice at Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, exclusively told The Mirror the horrific attack is the "latest in a string of politically-motivated violence."
Mohn was arrested around four hours after uploading the video to YouTube (Bucks County District Attorney's Office)
He believed he was the "Second Coming King of Earth" and wrote a book called "The Second Messiah" (Amazon)He said: "While all the details are still not clear with respect to the case of Justin Mohn and what motivated him to engage in the horrific violence against his father and post a video filled with angry rhetoric against Democrats, this seems to be the latest in a string of politically-motivated violence carried out by individuals with individual behavioural issues and ideological grievances, often which includes belief in conspiracy theories.
"There have been a number of individuals over the past several years who harbour extreme ideological views but are also willing to act out violently on them, and believe that their attacks are justified due to the severity of the threats facing them or the country."
Mohn embraced violent anti-government rhetoric in writings he published online going back several years. In August 2020, Mohn published an online “pamphlet” in which he tried to make the case that people born in or after 1991 — his birth year — should carry out what he termed a “bloody revolution.” He also complained at length about a lawsuit that he lost and encouraged assassinations of family members and public officials.
Mr Ali believes authorities will be on high alert in case there is another January 6 incident - especially if Republican favourite Trump loses to Biden again.
He added: "I believe the prospects of a January 6-type event in the run-up or following the November 2024 elections are slim to none since law enforcement and homeland security are likely already anticipating possible threats and beginning planning efforts to heighten security at government buildings, and voting sites or locations.
"Also, the hundreds of people charged and sentenced in the aftermath of the January 6, 2021 insurrection shows that the federal government will prosecute those who commit crimes against democratic institutions and processes to the fullest extent of the law."
