The hassle of drying clothes in the winter has never been easier with this £2.50 hack.

Let's face it, the winter months are a nightmare when it comes to doing laundry. You can't stick your clothes outside to dry because the weather is awful, and using the energy-guzzling tumble dryer too often adds a hefty sum to your energy bills. Drying clothes indoors also has its setbacks with the potential for clothes to begin smelling musty, and even for mould to grow thanks to the excess moisture in the air.

But one woman has come up with the perfect trick for drying her clothes at this time of year, which doesn't use a tumble dryer and doesn't require other methods of speeding up the drying process such as dehumidifiers.

All you need to make the hack work is a simple radiator airer, which you can pick up in shops such as B&M for £5 for a pack of two - making each airer cost just £2.50. The trick was shared on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips page on Facebook by one woman who said she had posted about it last year but was re-sharing it for anyone who had never seen it before.

She wrote: "I posted about this last winter, but thought I'd mention it again for any newbies. If you have a bannister this is a brilliant way to get your washing dry - the wide-armed radiator airers fit perfectly. As we all know heat rises so clothes dry very quickly."

The woman's trick involves placing a radiator airer over her bannister so that clothes hanging on the bars of the airer dangle down above her stairs. Because heat rises, the warm air from the lower floors of her house will rise through the stairwell and onto her clothes, helping them dry quicker than they would on a regular airer.

On top of helping clothes to dry faster, the trick can also help you save space if you find that regular airers take up too much room. The woman's post has received over 6,000 likes since it was posted, and many people have hailed her idea as "brilliant".

One person said: "Thanks for sharing this, I didn't even think to hang clothes like this," while another posted: "Brilliant idea, thanks," and a third wrote: "I do this! Such a good space saver!"

You can buy a pack of two radiator airers from Dunelm for just £3, and from B&M for £5. However, if you require radiator airers with wide arms so they fit over your bannister correctly, you may need to spend a little more. Dunelm sells a fold-out airer for £5, while a similar product from Home Bargains is £2.99 for one.
