Prince Harry has left one of his former friends "very disappointed" after portraying himself as a "victim" in his debut memoir.

The Duke of Sussex released Spare back in January and shocked readers as he issued a number of scathing attacks on the Royal Family. In the book, Harry opened up about his turbulent relationship with his brother Prince William and also hit out at his father King Charles.

Now, a former friend of Harry's has admitted he was shocked when he read the book as he didn't recognise the man writing it. He also hit back at Harry and said the Duke of Sussex is "the furthest thing from a victim".

Edward Charles Featherstone, a pseudonym chosen by one of Harry's former polo playing pals, told The Mirror: "I had a sense, an idea of what Prince Harry was about. And the book he wrote is nothing like the man I met."

Speaking about the contents of the book, he added: "And I found his book Spare very, very disappointing because it's all about him being the victim when he's the furthest thing from a victim." Edward, who has written his own memoir titled The Rude Beginning, also told us he has written a letter to Harry to encourage him to change his ways.

"It really just says get over yourself, you're not a victim and you were part of a noble cause as the torch bearer of the Invictus and what you're doing now and what you're doing to your family is, I think, inappropriate," he explained. The author is yet to publish the letter but said he is hoping to one day make it public.

"I've written a letter to him which at some stage I will publish. Whether I do it lowkey on the H2Z website or the Rude Chronicles website, or whether I do it slightly more upbeat and take a page in the LA Times remains to be seen. But at some point, I will probably publish that letter," he explained.

Edward said he originally included the letter in his new book, but ultimately decided "it's something for the future". The Rude Chronicles tells the story of his journey from being sent to boarding school at the age of six to playing polo and eventually joining the air force as a combat helicopter pilot.

Harry's own memoir offered readers an explosive look at what went on behind palace walls. It detailed his childhood in the public eye as well as his experience with drugs in his older years.

The Duke of Sussex also opened up about an explosive row he had with his brother William, during which the Prince of Wales allegedly called Harry's wife Meghan "difficult", "rude" and "abrasive". Harry claims his brother then "grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor".

The Rude Beginning is available now.
