TV health expert Dr Michael Mosley has issued a health warning about Heinz Tomato Soup.
The popular lunchtime choice for Brits could be contributing to a range of health problems due to its high salt content, he revealed on Channel 4's Secrets Of Your Big Shop. It could even be worse for your than a small single portion of McDonald's fries.
Dr Mosley explained that consuming more than the recommended 6g of salt per day can make our taste buds dependent on salt and lead to serious health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. A single tin of Heinz brand Tomato Soup contains 2.2g of salt.

A whopping 70% of Brits buy lunch at work, but we're not brilliant at making healthy choices."
"By lunchtime we're probably feeling pretty peckish and looking forward to something which is gonna fill you up, satisfy and also get you through the afternoon. A popular lunch munch is soup, with the healthy sounding tomato coming out on top. But beware of the salt content. Dr Mosley did however add a bit of good news - salt dependency is a cycle you can break. He added: "The good news is craving salt is a habit you can break really quickly. One option is to use a low sodium salt which contains potassium instead of sodium. Why not try boosting the flavour in your food by using more dried herbs and spices."
A Kraft Heinz UK spokesperson told the Mirror: "We’re committed to the health and wellbeing of our consumers and have set several big goals towards reducing salt and sugar across our range of products. To do this, we’re constantly innovating to ensure we offer greater consumer choice for a variety of different lifestyles. Our Heinz No Added Sugar and Salt Tomato Ketchup, Heinz No Added Sugar Cream of Tomato Soup with 25% less salt and our new range of Heinz Vegan Classics are just a few examples."
