EastEnders fans were left complaining over an "annoying" sound minutes into Monday's episode.

During the latest instalment, the episode started off with a loud alarm ringing over Albert Square, which left many soap watchers distracted and unable to hear the characters speak. This went on for the first few minutes of the episodes until it was revealed that Beale's Eels was responsible as a flustered Dean Wicks attempted to deal with the issue.

Dean was seen shouting on the phone for someone to sort the alarm, demanding someone come fix it immediately while Jean Slater came into the shop, complaining: "I can't hear myself think out there, other people are complaining as well!" Soap watchers were also left both baffled and annoyed over the storyline.

Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: "Why did they decide to do an episode with an ear piercing alarm that goes right through you for the first full 10 minutes of the episode. Not only did it hurt my ears I couldn’t hear the actors speaking properly either. #Eastenders", a different account put: "That alarm is annoying on #EastEnders", another viewer complained: "The alarm is actually doing my head in #EastEnders" while another added: "That b****y alarm blaring in the background was unbearable #Eastenders."

However, other viewers saw the funny side as one person said: "Not sure who thought putting an alarm throughout scenes for 5 straight minutes was fun and quirky… but pls never do it again. #eastenders" while a different account put: "#EastEnders tonight be like: The Show Villains: Nish and Dean The Real Villains: The Fire Alarm and Dean."

It comes as there will be a triple return on EastEnders next week - with the Square left reeling by the news. There will be three returns on the BBC soap, including Karen Taylor, who is back in Walford and desperate for news about her son Keanu, who was murdered by Linda Carter in shock scenes this Christmas.

Karen is back from Spain but she soon finds herself in trouble when Phil Mitchell arrives and demands she hand over the £50,000 she kept from Albie's 'kidnap' ransom. Separately, the soap will also air a return for Eddie Knight next week while a struggling Denise Fox hallucinates and 'sees' Keanu following his murder.
