A disgruntled homeowner is fed up with their garden being invaded by their neighbour's cat - and is now considering drastic measures to keep the cat away.
If you don't own a pet, but notice one of your neighbour's furry friends has decided to use your garden as a toilet it can be infuriating as you're left to clean up this mess.
While a polite word with their owner should help to resolve the issue, sometimes that doesn't happen and you're left to take matters into your own hands. One homeowner is contemplating extreme measures to deter their neighbour's cat - including putting spikes on their fence or spraying the feline.
"Next door's cat is driving us mad. It's using our garden constantly as it's toilet!" they explained in an anonymous post on Mumsnet. Claiming they have tried 'nicer' methods to shoo the cat away, the homeowner added: "We've tried chasing it away when we see it. And I've got a spray bottle of citronella and white vinegar I've been spraying around the garden (and would love to spray the cat!)."
The woman says her neighbours are "already awkward" which makes her want to move out. Both her and her partner work from home so they do often catch the cat in the act, but they are fed up of the poo in the garden and keeping the kids away from it.
'My selfish neighbour stole our parking spot - my revenge means he'll regret it'
At the end of her tether, she's now contemplating putting spikes on her fence. "So I've seen little plastic strips of spikes you can put on the top of the fence (it's our fence) and I was wondering what others think about putting them up? I know it'll look horrible but hopefully it won't be forever and will put the cat off and then it'll get in the habit of going somewhere else," she said, asking others if she was being unreasonable.
People were quick to share their advice on ways to keep the cat away, as one Mumsnet user wrote: "A combination of spikes, sprinkling chilli powder around my veg beds and spraying the cat with water when I saw it eventually worked at keeping it away," while another had an even more savage suggestion and said: "Have you contemplated collecting a week's worth of cat s***t and posting it through each Neighbour's door?"
However, one cat owner was less than impressed with these suggestions and said: "If any of my neighbours sprayed my cat with water, I would be doing the same to them."
