There's nothing more irritating than dealing with the stubborn hairs and dust left behind after vacuuming - but thankfully one clever woman has shared a simple hack to deal with the everyday issue.

For this particular method, you won't need to worry about splashing out on fancy cleaning equipment since you'll only need one cheap household item for this trick. If you have kids or own any pets, you'll know that carpets can easily become messy which means you'll need to spend some time scrubbing away at stains and vacuuming pet hairs.

While some carpet cleaners and detergents can sometimes do the trick, there are great alternatives to these standard cleaning products. Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, a cleaning guru shared her tip with others, revealing they'll need a window squeegee to banish dirt, which can be bought at most supermarkets.

Sharing a photo of a large clump of hair, she revealed that it was the accumulation of just a few days, and she often finds similar clumps when she uses the method once a week. All you need to try it out for yourself is a window squeegee and a bit of elbow grease to get rid of what the vacuum leaves behind.

She wrote: "Amazing hack I just have to share with you all! I do this once a week and the build up is shocking. I have a dog so for me it gets all the dust and hair the Hoover can’t! Just the usual shower/window screen squeegee - can get from Wilko, Poundland!"

Showing off her technique, she uses short, firm scraps to bring the dirt and hair into a pile, and it's shocking to see how easily it brings up what is really lurking in our carpets. A window squeegee can be picked up from Poundland for £1.50.

Fans raved over the cleaning method, with one woman revealing the hack left her carpets looking brand new again. She wrote: "So, I'm currently 35 weeks + 6 days pregnant and nesting has kicked in big time!

"I Hoover our bedroom carpet everyday, sometimes twice a day and today I was doing my windows at 7am (the birds woke me up). Decided I'd give this a go as my carpet always has wee black sock bits on it even after hoovering!

"Just wow! It's like a brand new carpet again!! My hands are now sore though, and my arms and back won't thank me later but am so pleased!!"
