Pep Guardiola warned Manchester United poaching Omar Berrada from Manchester City will not turn them back into world beaters.

United performed a major coup by snatching Berrada – City's Chief Operations Officer – from their local rivals to become their new CEO. Guardiola admitted losing Berrada – who played a key role in recruiting players like star striker Erling Haaland – to United is a big blow for the Treble winners.

But Guardiola underlined City's superiority over United by pointing out their neighbours have not been able to weaken them by luring Haaland or Kevin De Bruyne to Old Trafford. “Maybe United thinks with this person everything is going to change? Congratulations!” said Guardiola.

“I don’t know if this is going to happen. He's a lovely person, incredible character, incredible professional. Yesterday I saw him, we hugged and I wished him all the best. Deeply I wish him the best, because he’s a fantastic person.

“But I don’t know if by doing this [Guardiola clicked his fingers], everything is going to be sorted and it works. If it does happen then, oh my God, they have to make a stand for Omar in the future, because he’d deserve it.

“But Kevin De Bruyne is still here, Erling Haaland will still play here, so in the end it’s not that simple like that. Otherwise, with the power of United, they would have done it before.”

"In this club, these situations happen. The club will move forward. We will be well prepared, we will adapt, adjust and move forward. We learned a lot from Omar but he’s learned a lot from the club and now he’s gone to United.”

Guardiola also hit back at UEFA chief Aleksandar Ceferin, for claiming European football's governing body was right to charge City with breaching Financial Fair Play rules. City, found guilty by UEFA, won their appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but are now facing 115 charges of breaking the Premier League's FFP rules.

“As a lawyer, the president of UEFA, he should wait and after do whatever he wants,” said Guardiola. “He has to wait. He has a lot of jobs to do at UEFA. He should respect the procedure and understand we have the right to defend ourselves.”
