Ross opened up to The Mirror about his time on The Traitors, revealing the moment he knew he'd be heading home, and the final message he gave to the other contestants on his exit to make sure the Faithfuls win

Ross Carson from The Traitors has become quite an icon of the series alongside his mum Diane.

The video director was banished from the BBC show last night, just hours before the final. He had been recruited by Harry and Andrew, the existing Traitors, but in the roundtable yesterday evening, he found himself banished from the castle for good.

As he stood in front of his fellow contestants, he promised a final Easter egg, before revealing that his mum was Diane and the pair of them had been lying to everyone for weeks about their true connection, before confirming he was a Traitor.

With the remaining contestants - including lying Harry and Andrew - celebrating their success at kicking another person out, Ross was no doubt hoping the Faithfuls had clocked on to his final message to them as he walked out of the castle for good.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Ross explained he knew he was leaving the show from that morning onwards when he arrived at breakfast to be quizzed by Zack about his loyalties and was met with immediate questions. He said: "A hundred per cent thought I had a target on my back since like breakfast, right? With Zack's theory - the wrong theory might I add, but a theory that was plausible and good. When you're at that stage of the game, as long as their name is on topic, they will just go with whatever theory. So if it's me on the chopper block, then people are just gonna jump on it and just be like, well, you know, I wanna get to the finals, so I'm gonna target you. It doesn't matter really if they think you're a faithful or not. You start to think about the money and think about the final and you're just kind of happy that you're gonna make it through another day, really.

"I went into that roundtable just knowing, and you can feel the energy throughout the day of people starting to think it's you. They get a bit mistrustful of you. They don't like, they're not as open with you. I was friendly with everyone in there and I'd always be joking around and then I'm like, why are they not like laughing at my jokes anymore? This is weird. This doesn't feel normal."

Knowing he would likely be going that day, he set his plan into action to bring down the Traitors, even after he had exited the competition - but will it work, or are the others too trusting of Harry and Andrew?

"I had some tactics," he tells us, "I tried to repeat Zack's theory back to him before he got a chance and tried to like diffuse the situation. And then with Andrew, Harry gave me that rope, chiming in and saying about the elusive thing. But by doing that he actually brought him and Andrew into the mix. So it was a bit of a mistake on his part.

"And it allowed me then to go at Andrew and in turn Harry. And then I just thought if I switch it up here on Andrew and make people think, oh, that's weird for Ross to do. Oh, now he's just wrote Andrew, maybe let's investigate that. And that was kind of what my tactic was at that point, just to try and unravel the Traitors from beyond essentially."

Whatever happens tonight, Ross has cemented himself an icon of the series. Discussing who he wants to win, Ross revealed he's backing the Faithfuls and is hopeful he's managed to bring them down once and for all.

Asked who he was backing to win, he said: "My plan was to get them barking up Andrew's tree and then hopefully Andrew brings Harry down. So if my plan goes to plan, then it's got to be Faithfuls the whole way. Right?"
