Woman baffled by friend's 'rude' response after she brings wedding invitation

A bride-to-be was left reeling after her relative's disappointing reaction to her wedding invite, but the pal thinks she's being ridiculous.

We've all heard of bridezillas, but have you ever experienced entitled behaviour at the point of invitation? That's what happened to this woman, who was left baffled when the bride-to-be complained after she threw away her invite.

After being given the envelope, she merely set it aside with some recycling and put the important date in her calendar. But she insists it's something she does with 'all invitations'.

The bride-to-be has been left feeling hurt as she believed her friend had 'dumped' the letter, but the woman says this isn't the case. She previously expressed her gratitude for receiving the beautiful invitation - but doesn't see the point of holding onto it.

Taking to Mumsnet, the anonymous woman said: "A relative dropped off her wedding invitation on Saturday morning. I complimented the beautiful invitation. Then I copied the important details into my calendar and set the invitation on the side with the recycling.

'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'

"We chatted on for a few hours & had a lovely catch up. She has text me today to say she's been wondering whether to say anything or not but shes hurt the invitation was 'dumped' so quickly. It's got my back up, I appreciated the invitation and how beautiful it was but how long should I keep it for so it's been appreciated enough?"

Seeking validation for her decision, she asked: "I'm not going to send anything back other than to apologise for hurting her feelings, but i have done this with every wedding/party invitation. Am I in the minority?"

People have been left divided on the matter. One person wrote: "I keep mine on noticeboard until the day of the wedding, I think they are pretty. But I understand why you would chuck it if you don't like clutter. Bit odd of your friend to mention it tbh."

Another person added: "I generally kept mine on a shelf until the wedding had happened (usually c. 6 weeks) , then recycled it."

A third person said: "You're not wrong to recycle it after putting the details in your calendar - but I would wait until she's left your home!"
