Patrick Kubacak, who was previously at Manchester City, is hoping to return to football after he was left for dead in a random attack.

He was stabbed 32 times by Michael Canning, who has been jailed for life after being found guilty of attempted murder. The attack left Kubacak with serious wounds to his back, chest, face and head and he was in surgery for nine hours as doctors battled to save his life.

Kubacak was a semi-professional development player for City and a part-time model, but the attack left him with scarring that ruined his modelling career and there were fears he may never play football again.

However, he has now vowed to return to football one day and is sharing his recovery on TikTok, with the caption: "From not having a heartbeat and being stabbed 32 times to becoming the best footballer I can be."

The effects of Kubacak's ordeal were laid bare in court, with the 22-year-old saying: "Since the incident I've no longer been able to model as I could not cope with it especially if it was a topless shoot.

"I've been unable to play football as there are problems with my knees which I am paying to get better with private physio and I can't even work as a sales assistant as mentally I cannot cope with being out there in public, as I am scared of who might be behind me.

"As a result of all this I am on statutory sick pay with a newborn baby and this is not how I envisaged my life. When I saw my injuries for the first time, I knew my modelling career was over.

"When I had to face the mirror during X ray, I asked if I could turn around as I could not look at myself due to the scarring. I was offered the chance to do a £3,000 photo shoot for Nike but I was asked to send a topless photo and as a result of my scars I was turned down as they wanted someone who has clear skin.

"I hate going out in public now and hate going to restaurants as I feel as though everyone is looking at me and my scars. Prior to this I was proud of how I looked but now I am the polar opposite and try my hardest to keep fully clothed and I wear a hat now low down as I feel so self conscious.

"I used to be such a confident person - now I hate being around people and would rather be at home rather than have people staring at me."
