A seemingly simple memory test has left Brits pulling their hair out.

If you think you're the brains of the family and pride yourself on being intelligent, a baffling new puzzle may quickly humble you. It's a great way to get your mind ticking during the slog that is January, and could keep the little one's occupied for hours.

Research has also found that brainteasers can improve mental health and sustained attention levels, which could help those who struggle to concentrate on tasks. So, are you ready to give the challenge a go?

The puzzle was posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) by the account Excel Tips & Tricks, which has garnered a staggering 218,000 followers due to its handy tutorials. It shows a series of numbers from one to five with the caption 'What is missing?'.
