The Traitors are embroiled in a 'sexism row' after viewers and Claudia Winkleman noticed an issue on the series.

The BBC series has been a hit with fans at home ever since it first premiered in 2022. The finale is getting closer but viewers recently noticed a pattern of women getting murdered while men do the murdering. It wasn't a shock to fans when yet another man was unmasked as the newest recruit.

Furthermore, the three favourites to win are also men. Host Claudia, 52, even pointed out the issue during a recent episode. Paul Gorton, Harry Clarke and a woman named Ash Bibi were picked to be traitors out of the 22 contestants in the first episode. However, the sole woman traitor was the first to be 'banished' by her teammates.

Ash's teammates went on to choose three more men, including Miles Asteri, Andrew Jenkins and Ross Carson. In the most recent episode, Claudia said: "Another man. Good, it's like the olden days."

Harry claimed their decision was simply 'tactics' and that their decision was 'strategic'. The decisions made during the gameplay are made by the contestants and are not made by the BBC or producers.

Earlier this week, it was revealed the favourites in this series to win were also men. According to the odds, Harry is the 4/6 favourite with odds to win whilst Ross is 2/1 and Andrew, 5/1.

Meanwhile, Jasmine Boatswaine and Mollie Pearce were the two favourites to depart. Claudia and viewers even noticed women were chosen to get the axe in the 'murders'. "I would like to sit down and have quite a few conversations about it," Claudia said on BBC Radio 4's Women's Hour.

"I don't want to say anything because what if people haven't watched? I mean, lots of people haven't and they're listening now and they go 'Oh, this sounds all right' so I'm not going to say any names, but yeah, it's problematic. But then you'll carry on watching and you will see. And that is all I can say."

Some viewers rushed to social media to point out the issue, with one user saying: "Glad Claudia took a jab about them recruiting another man considering they've only murdered women besides Aubrey, only recruited men and the only female traitor was first to be thrown under the bus. It does appear rather sexist at this point."

One user said: "The Traitors most sexist setup. The women are getting murdered and the men are getting recruited as traitors." Another viewer pointed out: "Anyone else noticed the really sexist way #TheTraitors are operating? One female #Traitor is the first of them to be banished, then all the following recruits are male."

The Mirror has contacted BBC for comment.
