Mum applauded for banning her own children from attending her wedding
A mother has been applauded by strangers after revealing she’s made the difficult decision to not invite her children to her wedding. Sharing the complex situation on social media, the 48-year-old explained that her two kids are furious with her for being excluded from her big day.
She wrote: “This is my second marriage. The first ended with my husband cheating on me and moving in with his mistress. He offered me a tidy sum to divorce him. I took that money and moved abroad where I met my now husband.”
Her two children with her ex-husband are aged 27 and 25 and are deeply upset they had to find out about the wedding through extended family, and haven’t even been invited. She went on: “I am not in contact with them, my choice. They kept trying to make me get along with my ex and his mistress. Apparently, I was to graciously roll over and accept their disrespect. I have no desire to be friends with my ex and mistress.”

Going into a bit more detail, the mum explained that her kids have always wanted her to get along with her ex-husband and the woman he cheated on her with - even though she had made it clear she didn’t.

She wrote: “My ex wanted me to give my blessing for his relationship. Apparently, I was his best friend and he loved me as the mother of his children but he was in love with his mistress. He was shocked when I no longer wanted to contact him.
“My kids thought I should forgive him and be friends. They went as far as to invite me to lunch or dinner with them and then surprise invite my ex and his mistress. They would host family events with their SOs and lie to me that my ex would be earlier or later so I didn’t bump into him. Of course, he was always there. They cannot handle the fact that he and I are no longer on speaking terms and want us to get along.”
After sharing the situation on Reddit the woman was applauded by readers for taking the brave decision to cut her children out of her wedding and life. One person replied: “The way your children have behaved towards you so far, I would be worried that they would do something wrong at the wedding.
"I still think it's pretty cold-hearted and selfish for your children and ex-husband to keep confronting you about your ex-husband's cheating and asking for your blessing? What the f*** is wrong with them? Your kids are over 20 and should know better.”
Another user added: “That all sounds sick and toxic. Your children should still know better at their age and start living their lives independently of their father's approval. It's sick of them to act like that without any consideration for your feelings. Well, now they get what they deserve.”
Responding to some of the replies, the mum added: “They have always been desperate for their father’s approval because it was so hard to obtain. In comparison, my love was a given. They did not understand that while my love for them is infinite, my patience for their antics is not. I can give them a kidney, but I will not be friends with their father. There will be no close friendship and familiarity they envision.”
