Ivan Toney told to join Liverpool as Brentford swap transfer deal mooted
Liverpool have been urged to make a sensational swap offer to Brentford in order to bring Ivan Toney to Anfield.
Toney is being closely monitored by Arsenal, with the Gunners desperate for attacking reinforcements. They have been linked with a move for the Bees striker for virtually the entire season.
Rather than opting to move to the Emirates Stadium though, Toney has now been told that Liverpool would be a better fit. The Reds are the third-highest scorers in the Premier League and sit top of the table.
Despite that, former Liverpool star Stan Collymore believes they still need reinforcements up top. He highlighted Cody Gakpo as a possible selection for a swap deal that would bring Toney to Merseyside.
Gakpo has scored nine goals in 27 appearances so far this season, with Collymore insisting that he will prove to be a transfer failure. But it is a problem Collymore believes can be corrected if Liverpool sign Toney.

"If I was advising him where to go next, out of the clubs that have shown interest, I would tell Toney to go to Arsenal. However, I think the Arsenal culture is still not a winning one. The Brentford star is a ruthless character and it is clear he wants to succeed," he told CaughtOffside.
"Therefore, I don’t know if Toney’s attitude would rub off on Arsenal in a positive way. For me, if Liverpool decided to come calling, that would be perfect. I rate Toney so highly that I could see him in between Salah and Diaz.

If they offered Brentford cash and Gakpo, I wonder if the Bees would go for that?"
Toney has just returned from an eight month ban for illegal gambling. He scored Brentford's opening goal as they claimed a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, with the striker revealing his delight at being back in action.
"It means a lot, a long time coming. I manifested this during the time I was out. I knew this would happen, I manifested this. When I left my house this morning, I said to myself that I’m scoring tonight and that we’ll win the game and it happened," he told Sky Sports.
"I backed myself during training, everyone backs me - most of them go in the stands or in the car park but when it matters, I deliver! I just moved it a bit around the corner, gave myself that extra inch or two of space to shoot so the fans, everyone - I’m back.
"I could feel it coming up to around the 70th minute, I had to get a gel! But the adrenaline, hearing the fans screaming, knowing you’re in a winning position, there’s no better feeling. We needed it, desperately needed it.
"We’ve been grafting, even though we’ve been losing we’ve been grafting and we deserve what we got tonight. We worked hard in training and I’m sure we’re going to score many more. The last few weeks haven’t gone our way, but hopefully this is the turning point."
