A former bodyguard to Princess Diana revealed he once overheard a young Prince Harry telling elder brother William he could "do what he wanted" during a heated row - because he would never be King.
Long-serving protection officer to the Royal Family, Ken Wharfe, revealed the heartbreaking row, which reportedly happened as the family were travelling from London to Gloucester on a weekend trip over thirty years ago. According to Mr Wharfe, the brothers became locked in a fiery argument as they drove to their destination. Recalling the incident to LBC in 2020, he said: "I had the privilege of working with his mother, William and Harry and many other members of the Royal Family.
"I remember a moment of Harry as a four-year-old, travelling down to Gloucester one weekend. He and his brother had an argument in the back seat of the car being refereed by the nanny. "And in the end, Harry said: 'You'll be king one day, I won't. Therefore I can do what I want!' "Diana said 'Where the hell did he get that from?'
Harry's revealing comment hints at the complex relationship between the siblings which has become severely strained in recent times. Mr Wharfe continued: "You have to remember he's one of the most popular members of the Royal Family and we watched and witnessed the wedding in Windsor and everyone said it was the future of the monarchy. And suddenly it seems to be falling apart."

In 2021, Mr Wharfe claimed Prince Harry was "forced out" of the Royal Family after he moved to the USA with wife Meghan Markle. At the time, he told New Idea magazine: “Now trapped in La La land, what happens when the Hollywood trappings run dry? Will the palace welcome back their Prince? – of course – with or without his wife.”
The former royal protection officer was close to the late Princess at a time when her marriage to Prince Charles was crumbling. And his book "Diana – Closely Guarded Secret" was a huge bestseller when it was published in 2016 but the book's explosive revelations are believed to have angered the Palace.
