A delivery driver has come up with an unusual yet "strong" and "effective" way to stop your car windscreen from freezing - by using a bottle of vodka.

The UK is getting battered by an Artic Blast and temperatures are dropping below freezing. Black ice, strong, winds and patches of snow are expected to cause public transport chaos as well as impact road travel.

Drivers will be all too familiar with the frustrating and time-consuming ordeal of having to scrap snow off their vehicles and defrost their car windscreen each more. But one man believes he has come up with the perfect solution which saves him up to 10 minutes of time every morning.

Jack Mentiply, 26, claims a spray of the vodka on a car windscreen and "a few shots" in the screenwash refill, will prevent it from freezing over. The delivery driver shared a video demonstrating the simple hack - and claims any "cheap" bottle of the spirit will work just as well.

In the clip, Jack can be seen pouring the vodka on his windscreen and then filling his screen wash with the remainder of the £7.99 bottle of booze. After sharing the video to his TikTok, he racked up over 1.8 million views from stunned road users.

The driver from Albrough, Scotland, insists alcohol "will not freeze" - therefore preventing anything icing up. Jack explained: "I thought it was a more well-known trick, to be honest. It is something that I have known for quite a long time, and I have been doing it since I have been driving."

He continued: "I was outside doing it the day before I put the original video up, and my neighbour asked me what I was doing. Vodka is what I have always used. It is very strong so I would have thought it would be the best type of alcohol to use."

Jack followed up with a bonus hack - showing how to create a vodka screen spray so you don't have to pour it directly. He said: "If you get a spray bottle, and put the top part on the vodka bottle, it will last longer."

Jack said he had previously used shop-bought screen de-icer, but found it much less effective. He suggested the timing is key and impacts how well it works - recommending drivers do it before bed.

"If you go outside at night and put it on your windscreen, it is far more effective," he added.
