Hollyoaks viewers are convinced they have solved a major new storyline, possibly never covered on a soap before.
After bosses teased there would be major soap firsts and shocking and unexpected storylines on the Channel 4 and E4 soap this year, fans think the latest episode has given away one of these huge plots. On Wednesday night, the latest episode, which initially dropped on Channel 4's streaming site on Tuesday, revealed some big news for one character.
Mercedes McQueen recently learned she was pregnant, while she did not know who the father was out of partner Felix Westwood and her fling Warren Fox. Earlier this month she suffered a scare and believed she was having a miscarriage.
But this week she told Warren and Felix that she was still pregnant, and as they became caught up in a horror car crash there were fears for her and her baby's safety. Warren and Mercedes' fling came to light, and Mercedes once again made it clear she did not know who the father was of her unborn child.

Now, viewers are convinced the show is about to tackle a major topic in a new storyline that could see both Warren and Felix turn out to be the father of Mercedes' unborn children. Given the paternity is up in the air and Mercedes is having twins, fans are speculating that one of the show's upcoming 'soap firsts' is that Warren will be the father of one baby, and Felix the other.
There is a very rare occurrence named heteropaternal superfecundation, which is when a mother releases two eggs during ovulation, and those eggs are both fertilised but by the sperm of two different men. While the twins share the same biological mother, the biological father of each baby is different.
It's a rare phenomenon but has happened, and now fans think this topic will be covered by the show. Taking to X, one viewer predicted: "Im guessing one is Felix and one is Warren kid," as another agreed: "One twin will be Felix’s and the other one will be Warren’s."

It comes after Channel 4 commissioner Ben Wadey teased of what was ahead: "We're back telling those stories other soaps wouldn't dare tell and there's stories we'll be announcing in coming months where you'll go 'Oh my god, I can't believe Hollyoaks are doing that'. The audience are going to be in for a real treat this year."
Hollyoaks co-executive producer Hannah Cheers added: "The year ahead will see a lot more firsts as we continue to tell more issue based storylines which we really look forward to sharing later in the year. Excitingly, we will also have some welcome familiarity in the returns of some much-loved characters."
