A woman has come up with a genius and cheap way to remove built-up rust from metal furniture.

Rust never looks nice but it does not always mean that an item is destined for the bin. Rust usually occurs on metal if not looked after properly, protected, or cleaned properly. With a little bit of time your metal item could turn from looking old to brand new within seconds.

Content creator Melissa, who loves turning her trash items into treasure, is a pro at using clever hacks to restore items. Her latest hack involves an item which most of us have at home, costing less than £2.

She simply uses some water and tin foil. Melissa shared a video clip on Instagram and demonstrated how she used a scrunched-up piece of tin foil and rubbed it on the legs of a rusty wicker chair. She was able to remove the rust immediately.

The video raked in over nine million views and left people stunned. Melissa said: "Did you know you can easily remove rust with aluminium foil and water? Yes, that's it.

"All you need to do is crumple up a piece of aluminium foil, dip it in water, and scrub away! It comes right off." Tin foil costs just £1.40 at Tesco and £1.75 at Sainsbury's.

Thousands rushed to share their reactions to the hack. One individual who tried the cleaning method said: "We got a vintage chrome lamp a year ago with a gorgeous shape but some rust spots I couldn't figure out how to remove, and after 15 minutes and some scrubbing it's so shiny I could use it as a make-up mirror!"

Another wrote: "My late father-in-law had a beach chair and I've been wanting to refurbish it for my partner to continue using, but it is super rusted! I'm trying this! Thanks for sharing."

"I've been influenced, it actually does work," said another watcher. "This worked beautifully," added one other.

One individual commented: "Wow! You've changed my life!"
