Brits have been left scratching their heads after hearing all about a popular American dessert made with snow. On TikTok, Americans have been seen scooping snow into bowls to make 'snow ice cream', claiming it's a 'normal' winter dessert in the States.

Using just four ingredients: 12 cups of snow, two cups of milk, one cup of sugar, and a splash of vanilla, people have been sharing how to make the pudding on the social media platform. Commenting on the trend, one Brit said: "I don't think I'd trust the cleanliness enough to try it," and another saying: "That's one food I'll probably skip." Another agreed saying: "The answer is no," while one advised: "Just don't eat yellow snow."

But while many said no to the snow, some were intrigued after a doctor weighed in on the latest winter trend, to offer his heartfelt snowflake advice. Taking to TikTok he said: “Hi my name is Dr Rubin and that looks like that could be a potentially tasty treat.

In fact, snow-based desserts have been around for thousands of years – the question is: is it safe to consume snow nowadays and the answer is a little bit more nuanced than you may think. Obviously you don’t want to consume snow that’s visibly contaminated, that looks more like chocolate or lemon ice cream, you want to get the good pure stuff,” he said.

He also advised not using the first snow that falls, as it’s prone to collecting a lot of debris from the atmosphere: “When it gets to the ground it could be contaminated with various chemicals or pesticides,” he advised, saying it's best to wait for a second or third snowfall: “If it’s a long blizzard, wait until it’s at the very end of that to get undisturbed snow.”
