Dancing on Ice contestants never wear one common beauty product before heading onto the ice, as it could cause devastating injuries.

This year's series of the ITV ice dancing competition kicked off over the weekend, with the first six celebrities taking to the ice to perform, including S Club 7's Hannah Spearritt, boxer Ricky Hatton, Love Island star Amber Davies, Olympian Greg Rutherford, actor Ryan Thomas, and Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi.

But did you know that none of the celebrities are allowed to wear one very common beauty product when they're due to dance with their professional partners? All contestants are banned from wearing moisturiser - as it could cause a nasty accident in the middle of their routine.

Professional skater Dan Whiston previously told OK! magazine that the skaters swear by a firm-grip spray that keeps their hands from slipping when lifting their partners, and said that lotions such as moisturiser are not allowed as they could make your skin too slippery - and could see you in a horrific accident.

He said: "When you get nervous, you get sweaty and can lose your grip for the lifts, so we spray our hands with firm grip. There's a ban on lotions or potions like moisturiser or shimmer because as soon as your hand goes on them, it becomes slippy and no one wants that just before a headbanger."

Fellow professional Mark Hanretty added: "When you're doing lifts, you don't want your partner's skin to be too moisturised, otherwise you could drop them and it'd be really dangerous. We have cans of firm grip spray everywhere, which causes things to become sticky. I've been on the show for 10 years and still get sweaty hands before I go on to the ice, so applying that means I'm less likely to cause an accident."

That means moisturiser will also be banned when the next six contestants - Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards, Claire Sweeney, Ricky Norwood, Miles Nazaire, Lou Sanders, and Adele Roberts - take to the ice this coming Sunday (January 21) to perform their first routines with their partners.

It's not just moisturiser that's been banned on the show either, as back in 2021 it was reported that due to smaller crew numbers as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, spray tans were not able to be given on set, and instead celebrities had to make do with whatever tans they could achieve at home.

A source said at the time that the make-up team would have to fill in any gaps when the celebrities arrived on set, but wouldn't be able to do the whole thing as they're not tanning experts. ITV declined to comment on the story when approached by The Mirror.
