Pregnant woman flees baby shower in tears after mum-in-law's wildly selfish act
An expecting mother is fed up with her mother-in-law making everything "all about her" and does not know where to turn after she ruined her baby shower.
It isn't always easy to bite our tongues when it comes to the actions and opinions of our in-laws. But one woman has drawn the line after her mother-in-law "pushed her back" at her baby shower, and she left in tears.
The 25-year-old, who wishes to remain unnamed, explained that her husband, 30, has always been very close with his mother but now, their relationship is causing friction between their family. The mother-in-law, 63, was in the room on the night of their engagement and "everyone was around her" at their wedding. So when the pregnant woman announced she was having a baby girl at her baby shower, the mother-in-law jumped in and hugged her son before his wife had the chance.
"She ruined the moment," said the annoyed woman on Reddit. Explaining what happened, the annoyed wife said: "I'm 18 weeks pregnant with a girl. My husband and his mother are very close, I thought that after marriage I could have him all to myself but it never happened - my mother-in-law is always there.
"When he proposed she was there, the wedding was all about her, she was crying and everyone was around her. My husband visits his mother every day. He would stay for so long, he would just say hi and drop some gifts to her. I'm not exaggerating. Now I'm pregnant my husband stopped visiting his mother as often as he usually did."

Explaining what happened at the gender revealed, she continued: "I didn't want a huge party I honestly just wanted to know the gender of the baby in a fun and unique way and to take pictures with my husband. We had the balloon gender reveal. As soon as we popped the balloon I went for a hug but my mother-in-law hugged my husband before I did.
"I stood back as I watched her squeeze him and kiss him, he turned around to hug me and I stopped him. I told his mother that she is always doing this - pushing me back and this was our moment.
"I quickly began to cry and she stood there like she did nothing. My husband told me that what's important is that we are having a baby girl. I went and sat in the living room away from the party until his mother left."
But the woman's husband said that she does not appreciate his mother enough. Later she and the mother-in-law met up to discuss what happened.
The Reddit user continued: "We sat down and we had tea she was very devastated. She spoke to my husband in front of me and told him that he is a father now and his top priority is his family. She apologised for ruining the moment but she said that my husband is her only son and she was so happy for the both of us."
The Reddit post raked in hundreds of responses after the concerned wife asked for help. One individual said: "You might be legally married but you in no way have a husband. You do not want to raise your daughter in a situation like this so she'll grow up to believe she should be number 2 (or lower) in her future husband's eyes!"
Another concerned individual added: "I'd be looking into termination and getting the hell out of that relationship. No way I'd want to stay tied to the emotionally incestuous duo," while a third added: "She does seem to have some attention-grabbing tendencies, but her genuine apologies say a lot." One Reddit user advised: "You have your husband every day but his relationship with his mother really doesn't include you.
"You can have your own relationship with her but they are adults and they make their own choices. Instead of talking about why you believe Mom is the person to blame for your problems, perhaps just talk about how you feel when you’re being left out."
