Cosy thermals to keep you warm this winter

Rising household bills and energy prices may feel all the more prevalent as the current cold snap hits the UK, with some parts facing snow and freezing conditions it can be tricky not to ramp the heating up. Our latest money-saving pick is a £20 thermal set from Amazon and using it to layer up at home may just stop you from reaching for the thermostat.

It's the second part of our new money-saving picks series where we round up the latest gadgets and cosy comfies to help you either stay warm or cut the costs around the house. Last week it was Ninja's £70 off sale on its Foodi FlexDrawer Dual AirFryer that caught our eye, alongside a keep warm kettle from Tefal that is still £30 cheaper.

Those offers are still around to grab but as the brisk air moves in one item of clothing caught our eye which may just help you halt the chill. It's the Women's Thermal Set that's been reduced to just £14.99 at Amazon, a steal considering it includes thermal fleece-lined leggings and a base layer top for the price.

Thermal leggings and base layer top set - £14.99

Popping on an extra layer or sticking to consumer experts advice of 'heating the person not the home' can save you hundreds a year in energy costs, for the simple fact that you don't feel cold enough to justify turning up the thermostat. And at just £14.99 we think our pick this week is an affordable, yet effective option.

The set is available in a range of options from XS up to 3XL, although the recommended fit is to be tight fitting in order to trap warmth in, or feel comfortable if wearing as a base layer under other clothes. And wearers have stayed warm when wearing in freezing temperatures.

As one recent buyer said: "I liked these, they were soft and comfortable and kept me warm in freezing temperatures in the Finland snow. They were a little looser than other thermal leggings I have, but I was happy with that at a size 14. Will be wearing again."

While another person said: "I am NOT used to cold weather.I went to Canada and my gosh I was freezing, I had to wear these around the house just to be comfortably warm.

"These under loose sweats or a skirt with a sweater and I was happy. Also wore these under pants or under long socks and a skirt when I went outside. SO warm!"

And the £14 thermal set isn't the only wearable on our money-saving picks this week.

Kudd.ly hooded blanket - £29

A rival of the popular brand Oodie, these Kudd.ly hooded blankets are great for wearing around the house too. Also lined with a sherpa fleece the oversized style is designed to keep you warm as if you're wrapped up in a blanket.

One shoppers review caught our eye this week, as a mother and daughter duo managed to avoid their heating thanks to the cosy garment. They said: "My daughter & I couldn't afford to put the heating on last winter and we got through it with our Kudd.ly hoodies."
