Not addressing patio moss can cause a big headache further down the line, especially because it can get awfully difficult to remove.

The nasty growth thrives in warm, moist environments but experts have shared advice that can help deter the growth of moss. They've also shared advice on how to handle moss growth if it's a recurring problem.

Resident cleaning expert at Aaron Christensen, has shared his best advice, claimed the best way to maintain a patio free of moss is to regularly sweep stray mulch, leaves or grime that could cause moss to grow in the first place, reports .

Another preventative step that is very hands-on is to use a bristle brush to dislodge any new growth of moss before it becomes a really bad issue. If you don't tackle it straight away you could face longer hours of scrubbing in the future.

If you are past the preventative stage and need a more urgent solution, the expert has suggested getting the dish soap and boiling water out and sweeping the moss away with this mixture. He said: "Boiling water and dish soap is a gentle and eco-friendly combo to remove the moss."

Pour boiling water with a healthy amount of dish soap onto the patio and scrub with a stiff broom. He added: "The water-soap combo should create enough lubrication to remove any mossy layer sitting on your patio."

Further "excellent option(s)", the cleaner "really likes" is utilising a steam cleaner on the patio. Aaron said: "It is eco-friendly and simply uses the high steam temperatures to kill off the patio moss."

You have to remember to dry off the patio after you finish because moss thrives in a damp environment. This step can not be missed or all your efforts will come to nothing. It's worth saving your patio clean-up to a sunny day (we know those are rare at the moment) as the heat will help dry the surface up nicely and do some of the work for you.

The expert said that the most "powerful" approach is to use bleach, however, this cam be toxic for you, the garden and any pets. This should be used as a last resort option if all else has failed.

The expert said that the best way to use this method with bleach is to mix it with 10 parts water and spray apply to the mossy area. Leave the entire area for 15 minutes before scrubbing it with a hard bristle brush and washing it off with clean water.
