'Easiest' poached egg recipe you'll ever try with 'perfect' yolk in 60 seconds
A mum has gone viral for her clever hack that promises a perfect poached egg - and there's not a saucepan in sight.
Poached eggs are notoriously tricky to get right and there are a variety of cooking methods out there. But Jennifer Valentyne claims to have found a foolproof technique that uses just a cup of water, a dash of vinegar and her microwave.
In a video shared with her 572.3K followers, Jennifer states: "The easiest poached egg you've ever made. Add one teaspoon of vinegar to a cup of cold water and then add your egg."
"Microwave for one minute," she continues, before removing her egg from the microwave. "I put it on my sprouted grain toast and add a little salt and pepper," she adds. Upon cutting into her egg, a golden, runny yolk oozes out: "That's beautiful, look at that, perfect!"
Jennifer's poached egg video has so far amassed 13.9K likes, and viewers were quick to share their experiences of testing the hack themselves, with a number stating that vinegar is unnecessary."You don't need the vinegar and I make poached eggs all the time," one wrote. A second agreed: "No need to add the vinegar, it does nothing…"

The hack hasn't worked for everyone, however, with some people reporting "awful messes" left in their microwaves.
It has also been branded "dangerous" by some, resulting in injury in some cases. Back in 2021, a man named Gary McDougall attempted to poach an egg inside the microwave but ended up with severe burns when it burst across his eyes, cheek, and nose.
In a video shared onTikTok at the time, Gary urged others not to try the hack, warning: "Well I've done it a hundred million times and last night it didn't quite go to plan.
"This is not a TikTok for sympathy or to get any messages or that, I will get better soon. I'm not made of glass. Just be careful if that's what you do because sometimes it goes wrong. Be careful alright, don't poach eggs in the microwave."
American Jean Choi, meanwhile, has raked in over 5.9million views on her TikTok page @whatgreatgrandmaate, for her easy and healthy recipes - including poached eggs.
She said her poached eggs "have been perfection" since she began experimenting with methods adding they are "heavenly yolk porn". Jean said: "I don't love the microwave method because it's not consistent and the texture just isn't the same."
While many people choose to use vinegar, Jean also says she doesn't think "it makes that much of a difference" and leaves the ingredient out of her recipe. The cook added the best way to get the perfect eggs is knowing how long they need to be in boiling water.

Jean added: "This is one of my favourite breakfasts to date. That's pretty much it, I never mess them up this way and you can enjoy it in so many different ways. I hope that was helpful, go enjoy your perfectly poached egg."
