Tottenham have completed the £21.5m signing of Radu Dragusin from Genoa on a six-year contract.

Romania defender Dragusin, 21, will wear the No.6 shirt for Ange Postecoglou’s side after Spurs beat off competition from Bayern Munich, Napoli and AC Milan. It is a huge coup for Tottenham and another major boost for Postecoglou as they chase down a place in the top four.

They have signed Dragusin after completing a loan deal for RB Leipzig’s former Chelsea forward Timo Werner. Dragusin will bolster Tottenham’s ranks as first choice centre halves Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have both suffered injuries this season and the new boy can play anywhere across the back four.

The Romania international has won 13 full caps and started his career in his native Bucharest with Sportul Studentesc and Regal Sport Bucuresti as a teenager before moving to Juventus. Dragusin has already played alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski at Juve but had spells at US Salernitana 1919, Sampdoria and then Genoa.

But Dragusin turned down other European clubs as it was his dream to play in the Premier League and he will make his debut after his work permit comes through. A statement on Tottenham's website said: "We are delighted to announce the signing of Radu Drăgușin from Serie A side Genoa, subject to international clearance and a work permit.

"The Romania international has signed a contract with the Club which will until 2030 and he will wear the number six shirt."

While Dragusin arrives, Eric Dier has completed an “amazing” move to Bayern Munich. Tottenham defender Dier, 29, has joined the German giants until the end of the season with a further one-year option in the summer after one of the most surprising deals of the transfer window.

Dier has lost his place and fallen down the pecking order under Postecoglou but is now moving to one of European football’s superpowers. England international Dier flew into Munich to complete the move and was asked whether he was looking forward to playing for Bayern. “Very much, very much,” he said. “Amazing club… amazing.”

Tottenham agreed the shock deal as Dier’s contract expires at the end of the season and it is a chance to link up again with close pal and former Spurs team mate Harry Kane. Tottenham said in a statement: “We wish Eric and his family all the best for the future.”
