A travel hack shared by TikTokers turns a sick bag and a phone into a state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system.

The simple trick allows passengers on flights without a TV screen built into the seat in front - which is most short-haul economy services - to kick back, relax and enjoy some screen time without having to hold a phone up.

TikToker Fatpuppyyent showed herself putting the method to good use. She grabs a sick bag from the seat pocket in front of her and then lays it on the insider of her phone case, with the mobile removed. It runs from the top to the bottom of the case and is folded in snug to the walls and back.

The canny traveller then returns her phone to the case so that the paper sick bag is running behind its back. The section of bag that is poking out the top is then tucked into the locking mechanism of the seat table in front of her, holding the phone at the right level for Fatpuppyyent to watch a show while keeping her hands free.

If you like the idea of such relaxed watching but aren't so keen on deploying a vessel more regularly used for catching vomit, then there is another way. There are many light-weight phone holders on sale that attach to surfaces such as seats.

Gear Geek Travel Essentials Airplane Phone Holder is currently available for less than £10 and allows users to tilt their phone to an angle which suits them - something that the sick bag does not offer. The one downside is that the holder takes up a little room in hand luggage, which can be a precious commodity when flying economy.

While this may not be much use for the older passenger, social media user Ayelet has a different suggestion for how to pass the time when on a flight. The influencer put nervous parents at ease with a top tip she uses with her child Yitzchak.

The mum - who is owner of viral account @homeandontheway - shared the first-hand hack on how she keeps her tot busy mid-flight on Instagram.

She asked her viewers: "Need a screen-free toddler plane activity? I’ve shared my love for blue painters tape before. Well it’s just as good on the airplane! Other than our snack box this was the only activity we brought. I stuck pieces all around and let him pull them off.

"Yitzchak became interested in tape pulls at around nine months. He is now 15 months and still loves them. I love the fine motor work of tape pulls but here it also provided some gross motor activity as I put them at a challenging level."

The savvy mum shared a clip of her little one entertained as he pulled tape off of the airplane's inside window. Not only will the tape cure future flying fears - but it's also bargain friendly - as it costs just £1.50.
