Serhou Guirassy deadline set after Man Utd fail with transfer swap offer

Manchester United are facing a crucial January transfer window following a miserable season so far.

Boss Erik ten Hag is under pressure to turn his side's form around and could badly do with some reinforcements in this month's window. At the top of the Dutchman's wishlist is likely a new striker, with Rasmus Hojlund so far failing to live up to his £72million price tag.

But attack is not the only area where United need fresh faces, with their season at risk of turning into a damp squib, with the FA Cup their only chance of winning silverware. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news.

Race against time for Guirassy move

Manchester United are facing a race against time to sign Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy. The striker has impressed in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 17 goals in 14 games to help his side rise to an unlikely third place.

That stunning return has attracted the interest of United, who are desperate for reinforcements up-front. Guirassy has risen up their shopping list thanks to the release clause in his contract.

That clause means he is available for a fee of just £15million this month, well within what United could afford. But time is running out to activate it, with the clause only valid until mid-January.

United are also exploring a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand. But according to The Sun, the Red Devils' attempt to offer Facundo Pellistri in exchange has been knocked back.

Scouts from United have been sent to watch Hjulmand play in both the Primeira Liga and Europa League this season. And they have decided to offer Pellistri in part-exchange, with the winger having no place in boss Erik ten Hag's plans.

But that offer has been rebuffed by Sporting, who are refusing to entertain that offer. Instead, they are holding out for an interested suitor to activate the £69m release clause in Hjulmand's contract.

Martial reaches decision on future

Anthony Martial will stay at Old Trafford until the summer and will reject a move away this month. The Frenchman has scored just two goals so far this season, with his contract set to expire in six months.

But rather than leave United, Sky Sports report that Martial wants to stay and fight for a place in Ten Hag's side. He has already rejected interest from Marseille, Fenerbahce and the Saudi Pro League.

Club chiefs have held talks with Martial over his future at Old Trafford, but are unlikely to activate the extension clause in his contract. As a result, he is currently on course to leave on a free transfer in the summer.
