Fool Me Once's Emmett J Scanlan raves about Michelle Keegan

Emmett J Scanlan has discussed hit Netflix show Fool Me Once's explosive twists and what it was like working with Michelle Keegan.

The former Hollyoaks star, 44, plays Shane Tessier on the streaming giant's show, which is based on Harlan Coben's best-selling book. Appearing on Wednesday's Lorraine, Emmett praised co-star Michelle, who plays Maya Stern. The actor said: " Netflix are very clever, they'll slap on an episode, it will end on a cliffhanger. You've got about two seconds to stop it if you want and then it goes straight onto the next. Then you're like: 'Ah, sure, just one more, just one more...'"

Talking about working with Michelle, 36, he said: "Michelle is insanely collaborative, really fun on and off set, beautiful on and off set, hugely talented. She's showing an example of what a leading lady should be or just a leading actor should be. She brought so much positivity! I can't speak highly enough of her!"

It comes as fans of Fool Me Once have been sent reeling by news about a second season. The show dropped on the streaming service earlier this month - leaving viewers gripped as 36-year-old Michelle’s character Maya battled to solve a murder mystery. The hit show co-stars Richard Armitage as Michelle’s husband, Joe, and Dame Joanna Lumley as Judith Burkett.

The nail-biting thriller is based on American author Harlan Coben's novel of the same name and has been adapted for the screen by Danny Brocklehurst who previously wrote episodes of Shameless, Brassic and Clocking Off. The eight-episode first season dropped on Netflix on New Year’s Day - with many fans binging the show in one go.

With fans reaching the end of the series, many have begun to question if a second season of the show will be filmed. However, reports have emerged stating that the series is merely a mini-series and won’t return with more episodes.

Netflix itself has noted that the show is a limited series, stating: "The series has eight episodes." While Harlan Coben told the streamer: "Fool Me Once is a pulse-pounder — a shocking story of how secrets and deceit have the power to bring people together while simultaneously tearing them apart." Fans of the miniseries will also note that the plot points are tied up by the end of the eight episodes, meaning a second season would be unlikely.
