When it comes to weddings, there are a lot of traditions and expectations in place that dictate how proceedings ought to be. For instance, the bride should have something old, new, borrowed, and blue, or perhaps, the bride’s family should be the ones paying for the big day.

Most couples like to do things in their way and ignore conventions but one bride has raised an important issue after revealing her friends were now upset with her. Posted anonymously on TikTok, a bridal account read out a particular problem that one woman was having.

It went: “My bridal party is not happy with me right now. When I asked my bridesmaids to be in my wedding I let them all know that they would be responsible for paying for their own dresses.

“They all completely understood and had no problem with it at the time but I just sent them all the details of the dress I would like them all to wear and they all said that $250 for a bridesmaid dress is crazy and that I should be paying for it not them.

“Any wedding I’ve ever been in I’ve had to cover my hair, makeup, travel, and dress costs. I’m not sure why they think I should suddenly be paying for it and not them.”

The dilemma sparked a flurry of comments under the video with people debating who was responsible for paying for a bridesmaid dress. One person responded: “I’ve been a bridesmaid 3 times and I’ve always paid for my dress.”

But someone else raged: “No. If u want bridesmaids u cover their dress, hair and make up costs.” And another person agreed, adding: “I covered all my bridesmaids costs personally.I asked them to join me - so I struggle to see why they should cover any costs on a day I plan.”
