A mum has expressed her anger toward a local café owner after she watched him kick a family out over 'crying children' - but he has defended his actions, claiming the mum doesn't have the full story.

Laura Edwards took to social media in outrage after visiting Adele's Café on Magnetic Island, Australia, as she claimed to have witnessed management threatening to call the police on a family of four if they didn't leave the establishment.

The mum said she had witnessed the family's two children, aged two and three, crying, and believed the family were booted out of the café for causing a disturbance - but the owner says that's not entirely true.

After Laura's social media post went viral, she spoke to FEMAIL and said it was "sad" to see the family kicked out, as it shows society has "a long way to go" when it comes to respecting children. She claimed the owner of the café should have asked the family if they "needed any help" in calming their children down instead of resorting to making them leave.

However, shop owner Adrian Dalloste has a very different recollection of events. He said the two children had thrown a tantrum over having to share one scoop of gelato, and alleged he had witnessed the older child vandalising the café. He said: "The older child showed his unhappiness by clearing our shelf off with all our shells and items on the counter. Then he picked up one of the metal flasks and threw it on the tiles - I was surprised it didn't smash the tiles."

Adrian let the tantrum continue for 15 minutes before he stepped in and asked the family to leave, at which point the dad accused him of "bad business". The owner insisted the incident was the first time in over eight years that he has had to ask someone to leave, and took aim at Laura, saying she had no right to get involved. He claimed Laura called him "disgusting" for kicking the family out, but said she "hadn't witnessed" the whole incident.

But Laura defended her decision to post negatively about the café on social media, as she said she's sick of people "looking down" on those with children and assuming any tantrum is just the result of bad parenting. She fumed: "I think sometimes you do get looked down upon when having kids, especially if they're having tantrums and stuff, but their brains aren't fully developed at that age, and they need help to process those emotions.

"I was sitting outside at the time of the tantrum and didn't hear them. The doors are open the whole time - and I would have thought I would hear screaming and children throwing things. The only thing I could hear was the owner kicking them out."

After Laura put up her social media post - which included calling for a boycott against the café - many people leapt to the defence of the business. Some said that when they had young children, they would have left the café themselves if their kids "carried on like little brats", while others said they'd received "great customer service" from the café in the past.

Adrian admitted he was concerned that Laura's viral post could have had a negative impact on his business when it was posted and subsequently picked up by the media, but said business has actually been better than ever. He said: "Business has been good, the day after it all happened we had double sales."
