Netflix bosses are hoping that the new version of David Nicholls' novel 'One Day' will fare better than the poorly received 2011 film adaptation.

The brand-new TV series features rising British stars Ambika Mod, from BBC drama 'This Is Going To Hurt', and Leo Woodall from 'The White Lotus', as lead characters Emma and Dexter in the TV adaption of the book - which is set to be released 13 years after the movie adaption back in 2011.

The romantic drama revisits the lives of the lovers every July 15 over two decades. A trailer for the series shows that Ambika, who was born to Indian parents in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, has a better grasp of the northern accent than Anne Hathaway, who starred in the original film as Emma.

When the movie was released over 13 years ago, fans of the best-selling novel flocked to theatres far and wide to see the heartbreaking romance story played out on screen. However, the flick received dire reviews at the time as unimpressed stans insisted that the characters casting was wrong and Hollywood star Anne, 41, was the complete wrong choice to play Emma.

In the Netflix adaption of the best-selling novel, Leo plays Dexter Mayhew, who meets Emma Morley at Edinburgh University in 1988. The new adaptation closely follows Nicholls' famous novel, which explores the complex relationship between the pair over 20 years - with key events taking place on St Swithin's Day each year.

The new 14-episode series, landing on the streaming service on February 8, also stars Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson and Joely Richardson. Of his novel making it onto Netflix, Nicholls told Entertainment Weekly: "The premise of the novel was it should be like looking through a photograph album in the way that a photograph snatches a moment in time, that these days are little vignettes of how you were at that time, and so that was very much the intention with the show, that they would age."

Following the release of the trailer, Netflix fans have shared their excitement online, with many sharing high hopes for the new adaption. One Instagram fan penned: "This looks amazing and it's cast SO WELL. I've a feeling it's gonna be so much better than the movie."

"Netflix producers did something really right here!!!! This casting is impeccable," another enthused. "Nothing can be as bad as Anne Hathaway trying to be a Northern gal. We'll never get over it but this looks so good. Can't wait to see it," someone else quipped.

One Day airs on Netflix from February 8.
