Welcoming a dog to your home is a huge resonsibility, and it's important you make sure to choose a pet that fits with your lifestyle and level of experience.

This is especially true if you're a first time owner, as explained by one knowledgable training expert, with three specific breeds said to be particularly incompatible. According to this dog psychologist, who specialises in behaviour modification, these breeds would be unsuitable for those without much experience with canines, or 'city slickers', as they require plenty of hard work and extensive training.

Indeed, one of these breeds could prove to be 'highly aggressive' if the right level of care and attention isn't provided, with potentially dangerous consequences.

Shepherds

In a cautionary clip shared via TikTok, the trainer, who goes by the username @cherryhoggs, warned inexperienced dog owners to stay clear of Shepherds dogs, including the Australian Shepherd and German Shepherd. They explained: "These are herding breeds. As a result, they need a lot of work. If you're not providing the workload, you're going to have behaviour issues. The German Shepherds are the police dogs - that says everything." With this in mind, he added: "Are you going to work the dog like a police dog? No... so we wouldn't recommend getting one."

Hounds

The next on the list were hounds, which make for a 'high energy' handful for those without the know-how. According to this behavioural expert: "Hounds, hounds, hounds - they are high energy and all about the nose. They need to be worked instinctively. Once again, just like the Shepherds, they're a very, very high working line dog. As result, if you're not walking the dog, if you're not living on a farm, if you're not got a lot of acreage, you're going to really suffer."

Pitbulls

Lastly, the trainer urged against pitbulls as a first dog of choice, warning that they will likely 'rule' any prospective owner without adequate discipline in place. They cautioned: "Why do they get the stigma? I wonder why! Most of our dogs are Pitbulls. They're highly aggressive if they're not trained. They've got so much energy, they're very rambunctious and they have got an aggressive tendency. They can be the nicest dog in the world, but if you're not going to give them the right form of discipline, exercise and partnership, they're going to rule you."
