Woman's £1.90 'magic' trick makes grubby brown towels look brand new

A woman has shared her incredibly useful tip to get filthy towels smelling fresh and looking brand new with the help of one ordinary product that works like magic.

As we all know, bath and hand towels accumulate dirt and odour after some time, which eventually causes bacteria to grow on the material. Experts say people should clean their towels regularly, with some encouraging Brits to stick them in the wash after three uses. But there's nothing more frustrating than noticing the stain marks left behind on our towels after a single wash or when the material is harsh against the skin.

According to some websites, the common laundry problem is caused by not using the right cleaning products to remove tough stains, which are more noticeable on light-coloured towels. Experts have also said that using harsh detergent can strip towels of their natural softness.

However, one woman has the solution. Ironing and laundry expert, who is known as the Ironing Queen on TikTok, has shared her top tips online and has gone viral as a result.

Minie Eli, who posts under @theironingqueen, garnered hundreds of thousands of views after sharing her trick to make white towels look bright again. In a video, which has been watched over 423,000 times since it was published in January 2023, Minie shows a white towel, covered in an abundance of stains. She says: "Mascara, foundation stains, eye shadow, blusher, fake tan, you name it, it's on there.

In the clip, she pops the dirty towels in the washing machine, sets it to a cotton wash cycle, adjusting the temperature to 30C. Minie then adds some bio laundry liquid to the left-hand side of the washing machine drawer as well as a "magic ingredient."

The ingredient is Ecover Laundry Bleach, which can be purchased for just £1.90 from Sainsbury's. She adds some into the drawer as well and starts the wash. When it's done, the cleaning guru shares the results, taking towels and cloths out of the washing machine and showing how they now look "beautiful" and "perfect" with no make-up stains in sight.

She adds that you can then tumble dry or air dry your towels depending on your preferences. People in the comments were quick to praise Minie for sharing the hack, with one person saying: "That's amazing!!! They are so clean!! Thank you for the tip."
