Mbappe 'sacrifices' £69m bonus as Liverpool urged to step up transfer chase

Liverpool's January window is set to pick up speed, with Mohamed Salah jetting away to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Reds are not back in Premier League action for a fortnight, with boss Jurgen Klopp hoping to boost his side's push for the title. Salah's absence will certainly be felt, though it is yet to be seen if the Reds look to bring in cover for the attacker.

One man who is being consistently linked with a move to Anfield is Kylian Mbappe, with the PSG star free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Premier League teams. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted Nat Phillips' future is up in the air. The defender has returned to the Reds from a disappointing loan spell at Celtic, with Klopp revealing he will remain at Anfield for the time being.

"With Nat we have to see, we have to see. We have to consider our own situation and stuff like this. He will definitely be with us until the end of the month and then we will have talks and see our situation, that’s how it is," he said.

"It didn’t work out at Celtic, a little bit injuries but then if a team like Celtic is in a positive moment and you are in the team you stay in the team, if [they are] not in a positive moment and you are in the team then you might go out, so that says nothing about the quality. So, Nat will train with us and then we will see how that develops."

Reds urged to step up Mbappe chase

Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has urged current boss Klopp to step up his chase for Kylian Mbappe. The attacker is free to sign a pre-contract agreement and Hamann believes he would be the perfect signing for the Reds.

“There’s not many clubs who can afford him. Is it feasible? I’m not sure, Liverpool have never spent big money like this but he’d be a free transfer in the summer," Hamann told KingBonusBets.

The issue would be the wage structure as he’d come in and earn double as much as the rest of the squad and there’s always a risk of upsetting the dynamics within the team. Having said that, he’s probably the world’s best player at the moment and it’d be great to see him at Liverpool.”
