Prince William has developed a new gesture hinting at growing confidence as a monarch-in-waiting, a body language expert claims.
Since stepping into his most recent role as Prince of Wales, all eyes have been on the future King of England and the type of monarch he'll be. But there's one particular action that may just signal he's not afraid to take the reigns.
According to body language and behavioural expert Darren Stanton, William displays a signal often adopted by Hollywood stars on the red carpet showing their poise and boldness. It's a move which, he claims, he's only taken to more recently since moving up the ranks as first in line to the throne.
Mr Stanton, an expert speaking on behalf of Betfair Bingo, said: “Prince William, in terms of being our future monarch, has certainly come far in his ability to not only work with members of the royal family or Kate but to also work alone - all whilst coming across as super confident. One thing I have noticed with him as of late is that he will widen his stance, which is a new gesture that we haven't seen with William before.

With Prince William, we will notice a few gestures where his foot stance is quite wide, and that is directly linked unconsciously to the level of inner confidence and personal comfort he feels. Therefore, he doesn’t come across as nervous, as he looks and appears comfortable in his own skin.”

The Prince himself has already made a few red carpet appearances alongside Princess Kate in recent years. The royals showed up for November's Royal Variety performance 48 hours after the publication of Omid Scobie's Endgame, and have appeared at various film premiers for the likes of 2022's Top Gun: Maverick and last James Bond instalment, No Time To Die.
Meanwhile, Mr Stanton has also revealed how the couple's body language with one another breaks the mould of previous senior royals when it comes to showing affection towards one another. “William and Kate are a very strong couple,” he said, “and their relationship has continued to evolve and grow even stronger over the years.”
He added: “An important thing I have seen over the years is that both their levels of confidence and independence - in public and private - has really developed. We have never seen senior members of the Royal Family be so affectionate with one another in the public eye.
“If we look back at photographs of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, we would never have seen them holding hands or being tactile with each other. This shows how in tune William and Kate are with each other on an emotional level. They’re also not afraid to be open and honest through their body gestures about how they feel. They've really broken the mould, and there's a level of humour, playfulness and mischievousness to them when they want to be - which is really refreshing to see.”
