A woman has shared how a paternity test has caused a family frenzy after the results left everyone shocked. After admitting her and her husband only took the test as her father-in-law insisted on it, she told how when he first asked them they were furious: “In my husband's family you inherit from your grandparents.

"My husband's father got it into his head that our son was the product of me having an affair. He said that he would not set aside money for him unless we got a paternity test. My husband told his father to go f*** himself and we cut him off.” However, after a couple of years, the father-in-law asked to come back into their lives, still demanding a paternity test so a fund could be set up for their son.

She said: “My husband and I talked about it and we agreed under the condition that when it turned out that my husband was the father, the money for our son would be in an irrevocable trust for his future even though, obviously, his grandfather has not passed away. He agreed and we did a reputable and private test.”

But no one was prepared for what happened next, as the test revealed that while the son was, in fact, her husband’s child, he wasn’t related to many of his paternal relatives, causing the father-in-law to brutally accuse his ex-wife of cheating as: "the test showed that my husband was illegitimate.”

Two tests later, it transpired that while her father-in-law was definitely her husband's father, he wasn’t the offspring of the man he always thought was his own father, leaving him blindsided. With a legally binding contract in place so the woman’s son had his inheritance waiting for him when he turned 25, the woman said she saw red after her father-in-law started complaining about having to sell assets to set up the fund.

She said: “I said that if he had just accepted his grandson and hadn't been such a b****** about it then we would all have been happier. He said I was being very rude to insult him like that. I said that he had been rude to insinuate that I was cheating on my husband. And that technically he was indeed a b******.”

The woman admitted that her comments had left her father-in-law in a fury, however, her husband backed her up: “He told him that he brought this all on himself and that if he wants to be in our lives he will treat us all with respect. He followed up that since we have the money now there is nothing he can hold over is if we choose to kick him back out.”

After talking about the family feud on Reddit, readers were quick to jump to the woman's defence. “So he barges into your lives demanding a paternity test, accuses you of cheating but you need to be more polite?” said one infuriated reader.

Another said: “Your FIL needs an attitude adjustment. Not sure why you'd wanna continue tolerating somebody like that in your lives, but congrats on the free trust fund!” “Father-in-lawis lucky you let him back into your lives so as long as everyone is respectful then there should be no further issues,” said another: “Mean words? Yes. Warranted? Absolutely.”

While some saw it as the husband’s problem to sort out, another highlighted that paternity wasn’t always an indicator of being a good father: “Paternity tests don't make you a father, being there for your kid does. Well done. Be careful of what comes next. Narcissists don’t like to lose.”
