Conor McGregor told how he can become "legendary" in UFC comeback fight

Conor McGregor has been told a knockout win in his UFC comeback fight against Michael Chandler would make him "legendary".

McGregor claims he will be making his long-awaited UFC return on June 29 to headline the promotion's International Fight Week. The Irishman said the fight will be taking place at middleweight, which would mark both his and Chandler's debuts at the weight division. McGregor started his UFC career as a featherweight but has also competed at lightweight and welterweight.

McGregor can become the only UFC fighter in history to record knockout wins in four different weight classes if he stops Chandler in their upcoming fight. McGregor has piled on a lot of muscle in his time away from the octagon and O'Malley thinks he would hold a slight weight advantage over Chandler if they fight at middleweight.

“I feel like he might be fiddling,” O’Malley said on the TimboSugarShow podcast. “Chandler probably walks around max 185lb. Conor is probably 190 or 195lb but it's an interesting matchup there at 185lb. If he knocks out Chandler, he’d have a knockout at 145, knockout at 155lb, knockout at 170lb, knockout at 185lb. That would be legendary.”

McGregor would join an elite list of UFC fighters if his fight against Chandler takes place at middleweight, as only Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez have competed at four weight classes in the promotion. The former two-weight world champion has been advised against moving up to middleweight by fellow legend Michael Bisping, who once reigned as the division's champion.

"[McGregor] fought at 145lb and then went up to 155lb, 185lb is not his optimal weight class. Granted, he’s fighting another lightweight in Michael Chandler. The problem is they’re going to be carrying more weight. I’m not hating on Conor and I’m really excited for the fight," Bisping said on the Believe You Me podcast.

"He’s the most exciting guy because of the energy and the presence and the hype and the performances. Win or lose, and there’s been losses recently, they’re still big moments and the comeback is going to be something special. It really is, but I think with all that extra weight it’s going to be an issue. Not only does making weight suck, but making weight also insists on discipline."
