'Everyone hates my daughter's name - they say it's tacky and embarrassing'

A mum-to-be has slammed "boomers" for mocking her daughter's unique name - as she claims they're jealous of her originality. She explained how she is naming her daughter Kitty May after her husband hung to the name May for "dear life".

Taking to Reddit, she said: "I have spent months trying to find something that none of the other 150 newborns have been named and goes with May. Her name must be unique. My husband has been so picky, so has my mum and sisters and brother and friends. Even my coworkers laughed at my top five picks."

The woman says she originally wanted to name her daughter Lime - but her husband vetoed this idea. "My husband and I love Kittie, but everyone scoffs at it," she added. "It’s gotten to the point where I’m embarrassed to tell people. Is this a sign we should pick something else?

After taking to social media to ask users for their thoughts on the name, the woman concluded: "We are definitely naming her Kitty. Just so we can weed out the evil boomers. because you said this will make her life harder, I am definitely doing it.

"The name is only embarrassing because my entire family has made fun of it so often we can’t even take it seriously! Thank you for convincing me to give my child a harder time!! We would never name her anything embarrassing."

Commenting on her post, one user said: "Name her Kaitlyn and call her Kittie so she can choose later." Another user added: "She's wasting too much energy caring what her mum, sisters, brothers, friends, uncles, aunts, coworkers, and the neighbor's dogs think about the name. It should be between her and her husband. They could name the daughter Kathleen May and use Kittie as a nickname. Kittie sounds cutesy now, but won't really age well."

A third user said: "I went to high school with a girl named Kitty and I thought it really suited her. I’ve always thought it’s a super cute name! I could never use it because I’m a cat person and everyone would say really? But it’s super cute. Plus, she got the better end of the deal. Her sisters are named Kirby and Mayers. So I think Kitty is the cutest." One more user added: "My maternal grandmother’s name was Katherine and she went by Kitty her whole life."
