'Always smiling' woman in 20s dies in hospital after latest fatal house fire
A woman in her 20s has tragically died in hospital following a devastating blaze that tore through a home in Oxford.
Police rushed to the home in Headington, Oxford at around 6.25am this morning, where they found the young woman. She was rushed to hospital but despite best efforts, she couldn't be saved.
It puts the grim tally of people killed in fires over the past three days at five following a string of deadly blazes.
One witness, who gave only her first name, Shanice, 27, told The Oxford Mail she didn't know the woman personally, but that she recalled seeing her "always smiling and saying hello". She added: “It’s just so shocking." Local fire crews sent four engines to get the fire under control. The victim's next of kin have been informed.
Last night, three people lost their lives after an inferno torched their home in London, leaving another fighting for his life in hospital.

Emergency services rushed to a residential road in Croydon, south London shortly before 11pm on Friday night. A fire had ripped through a property and two men were pronounced dead at the scene, with officers now working to inform their family and loved ones.
On Saturday, a third man, believed to be in his 30s, died in hospital, the Met Police force said. Two other men self-presented at hospital following the fire. One remains in a life-threatening condition, while the other has been discharged. It isn't yet clear what caused the fire. Shocking images from the scene show a heavy presence of emergency services as the road has been cordoned off.
Police believe they are all Polish nationals but are still working to confirm who they are and inform their families. Chief Inspector Imran Asghar, of the Metropolitan Police, said: "This is an extremely sad incident, which has led to the deaths of three men, while a fourth man remains in hospital in a critical condition.
"My colleagues have made significant progress towards confirming the identities of the men and providing support to their families. This process is ongoing. At this stage, I understand that the three men who have died were Polish nationals, as are the other two men who attended hospital. Inquiries by specialist police and fire investigators are under way to establish the cause of the fire."
And earlier today, it emerged that another person had died after a blaze broke out in their living room in Carlisle,
Three firefighters were sent to the scene, and successfully extinguished the fire. The person, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service has now launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. They wrote on social media: "Firefighters extinguished the fire, but sadly, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is now underway. CFRS will be in the area over the coming days to provide community reassurance and fire safety information."
