A woman was sickened by the behaviour of some parents at a New Year's Eve party while their kids played in the room next door to theirs - and debated calling social services.

The social media user took to Mumsnet to reveal she'd been one of the friends invited to the event and brought her husband along with her to keep her company while other partygoers decided to bring their small children. The childless woman had been offered drinks and cocaine, which she found to be completely unacceptable.

After leaving the party, she questioned whether she should call social services to investigate the irresponsible parenting and later sought advice on the parenting platform. She claims it was oblivious that several partygoers had been regularly sneaking into the bathroom throughout the night, which left her feeling "extremely uncomfortable."

The couple were the only two out of the group who weren't involved in the drug taking and left the party earlier than planned. But her partner didn't share the same level of concern, telling her that drugs are taken regularly at their social gatherings but out of sight of the children.

She wrote: "Whilst there, I was shocked when one of DP's [darling partner] friends called me in to the bathroom and casually offered me some cocaine. Once I became aware of what was going on I felt extremely uncomfortable being there and asked DP if we could go home, meaning we left before midnight.

"The majority of them are highly successful, well educated and appear on the outside to be doting parents. When we left I told DP how shocked and disgusted I was that they had been taking drugs in the presence of and whilst responsible for caring for their young children.

"DP seemed [very] blasé and said that they do it regularly at social gatherings and always ensure its done away from the DC [darling child] (i.e. by sneaking in to the toilet ) so doesn't see the problem."

Understandably, the Mumsnet post received a lot of outrage. One user commented: "It's one thing turning a blind eye when it is just adults making lifestyle choices for themselves, but it's another when there are children there. There's potential for a really tragic accident in this situation." A second user agreed: "Disgusting. Poor kids. They aren't respectable, they are neglectful."
