Chelsea are facing a huge January transfer window having endured a mixed first half of the season.

The Blues have had some high points under new boss Mauricio Pochettino, but they still only sit tenth in the Premier League table. Another big spending window could be on the horizon, if club chiefs can get around the rules governing Financial Fair Play.

If they are able to spend though, Pochettino could be able to solve several of the major issues with his squad. Here, Mirror Football looks at what moves Pochettino could make as he aims to ensure his debut season is seen as a positive.

Ivan Toney

A new striker must be Pochettino's top priority, with Ivan Toney one of the leading targets. While the Blues return of 31 goals is far from terrible, and is 10 more than Manchester United, their strikers have failed to fire.

Toney would certainly solve that problem, having established himself as a proven goalscorer in the top-flight. Though he has spent eight months suspended, the Englishman would be a good acquisition.

But Pochettino does face several difficulties if he is to bring in the Brentford man. Firstly, the Bees will demand a hefty fee for the striker, while Arsenal are also desperately keen to sign him.

Benjamin Sesko

A man known well to Chelsea fans is Benjamin Sesko, with the 20-year-old having been linked to the Blues frequently in recent years. Having developed a reputation as one of Europe's brightest young stars, a move for Sesko would certainly fit into Chelsea's strategy.

But he has not exactly set the world alight at RB Leipzig in his first season in the Bundesliga. He has scored just three goals in the German top-flight, while the fact he is only in his first year at Leipzig will make him expensive.

Matty Cash

With Reece James ruled out with yet another long-term injury, a move for a new right-back could be in order. One player who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Matty Cash.

The Polish international has impressed for Aston Villa, making 15 starts in the Premier League this season. But Villa's success and Chelsea's struggles would make convincing Cash to move difficult.

Mike Maignan

One of Chelsea's other big issues is in the goalkeeper position, with doubts around Robert Sanchez's suitability as their long-term option between the sticks. The Spaniard's injury has opened the door for a potential move in January.

If they are looking for a long-term option, Maignan would certainly fit the brief. The Frenchman has starred for AC Milan, winning Serie A in 2022, though with the Rossoneri currently well behind bitter rivals Inter, they my be willing to cash in.

Aaron Ramsdale

If Maignan is not attainable, then Arsenal back-up Aaron Ramsdale could be an alternative option. The Englishman has dropped behind David Raya at the Gunners, with little chance he will regain his place.

That could signal it is time for him to leave the Emirates Stadium, with Chelsea providing the chance to move to a club that has aspirations of reaching the top four. Arsenal have insisted he is not for sale in January, but their resolve could be tested.
