A woman who was ridiculed for packing 'too much food for her children' has defended her decision, and shared the heartbreaking reason why.

The mum was surprised to find herself in the firing line for posting pictures of the food items she packed in kids' lunch boxes. She had to defend her action against a mob of angry Facebook mums who believed she was overfeeding her children.

She shared pictures of the lunch boxes she packed for her kids, which contained sandwiches, crisps, pretzels, fruit, and sponge cake treats. However, she was forced to defend the packed lunches for four of the school children. The woman insisted her children were not overweight and didn't waste food.

But her post sparked an unexpected pile-on back in 2020, and the mum was forced to reveal the touching reason why she packed such generous lunches for her kids. She told her critics that she didn't skimp on lunch snacks because she often 'starved' as a child and wanted to give them what she never had, according to the Mail Online.

Other mothers made judging comments on her post. "How do they have time to eat and play too," one said. Another added: "My kids wouldn't eat all that in a week."

She hit back at her detractors at the time, writing that they had their "knickers in a twist" and that she preferred to give her kids a varied diet because as a child she was often "starving." She wrote: "I was lucky to get even three food items. I do this to ensure they don't get hungry. If they have leftovers they will eat them when they get home instead of an afternoon snack."

After her post attracted a flurry of interest, she also explained what one of her primary school children would eat on a typical lunch. The child's lunchbox would include: one sandwich, a handful of grapes and blueberries, 12 pretzels, one sponge cake finger, five crackers with five slicers of cheese, a packet of crisps, and sometimes a slice of watermelon.

She said the school's principal had previously poked fun at the size of her children's lunchmeals, asking if they had room for anything else in their bags. The mum replied: "Yeah, we managed to fit a drink bottle and a hat as well."
