Man Utd's hopes of permanent Greenwood exit boosted as transfer talks confirmed
Getafe president Angel Torres has confirmed he has held talks with Manchester United over a permanent move for Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood moved to the La Liga side on loan in the summer, with his career at Old Trafford over following an internal investigation. That came after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against the striker.
His original move to Getafe is only a loan until the end of the season, with United expected to then try to sell him. Their hopes of completing such a deal have now been boosted, with Torres having already started talks with the Red Devils.
"We had a video conference a few days ago [with Manchester United]. Almost every month we talk to see how he is. The boy is super happy. Now he is there, in England. The family too. They know we are interested in him staying one more year and I think we are on the right track," he said.
With Getafe eighth in La Liga and knocking on the door of the European qualification places, Torres is set to be busy in January. The Spanish club chief is also targeting moves of Ilaix Moriba and Oriol Romeu.

"He is one of the players who has already been offered to us. The coach knows him. If we reach an agreement, surely. First we are going to reinforce the midfield and if he can be hired someone on the wing to complete the squad," he said of Moriba.

In football there is nothing impossible. I have told many times about Messi. I was able to bring him when he was 16. In football there are difficult things but not impossible.
"We are working on four or five very advanced things. We are waiting for tomorrow or the day after the coach comes and agrees. One or two reinforcements will come as long as the coach agrees."
A move for Greenwood would certainly be met with delight by manager Jose Bordalas. The Getafe boss has already signaled his happiness with the striker's performances, having scored five goals and notched four assists in 15 appearances.
"Greenwood is a different player, with a lot of talent but in this football talent is not the main thing. It takes more work than talent. When he is at 100% we will be able to check his real level but he has the conditions to play in any major," Bordalas said.
"[He's fitted in the team due to] a lot of patience, with a lot of calm, aware that he had been unemployed for a long time without playing and practically without training. But we trusted because of the talent, because of the level that he has had.
"Being able to opt for a player of this level at Getafe is complicated, almost impossible. And well, given the situation, we bet on him. We are happy and content because we have a great player, he is a good boy, he has fitted in really well and he just needs to learn a little more Spanish."
