The Christmas period is a time for spreading cheer - whether that be smiling at someone as you pass them on a street, or donating to charity if you're in a position to.

So it is no surprise that people online were left 'crying' after hearing about a man's selfless gesture this festive holiday. The worker ended up saving his colleague a lot of money and heartache just before December 25 after he witnessed having his "tyres repoed while he was working." The person who wrote the post explained they left his vehicle 'standing on cinderblocks in the parking lot', and it made the vibe completely uncomfortable - until one of the salesmen came to the rescue.

They took to Reddit to explain: "He was on the phone with his wife, crying and apologising. He has three young kids at home. It was hard to watch. One of our salesmen got up and said: 'It's too close to Christmas.' He called the tyre company and paid for the man's tyres.

"This salesman has had a hard year himself, with personal tragedies and taking on raising his grandchildren. He could have done nothing and no one would have said a word. I can't remember a time I've seen such a selfless and kind act. How have you seen the Christmas spirit on display this holiday season?"

It prompted others to share their experiences of festive cheer. One wrote: "Well now I'm crying in my kitchen. What a kind man to help that new coworker. I have an example. I had someone share their selflessness and Christmas spirit with me this year. She knew how badly my little girl wanted an American Girl doll, specifically the Samantha doll, and she ordered it for ME to give to my little one. She didn't want any acknowledgement of it.

"It was incredibly thoughtful and something we never would have been able to afford while buying gifts for all our kiddos. She even included matching pyjamas for her and the doll and a carrier case. Just the sweetest thing. One day I hope I can somehow help her as much as she helped us. I cannot wait to see my daughter open that gift!!! I'm so excited!"

Someone else said: "First, I am old. A nice younger gentleman paid for my meal, and I didn't know until I pulled out my card. I sent a quiet thank you across the restaurant and he nodded. I am always alone on Christmas, so such a nice thing to do! Gave me hope!"

Another added: "My best friend, today, just paid for my brakes - I needed them fixed. We've been tight with money, until my new job started, and he was helping me replace the pads. We realized the caliper was broken, and I was stressing about the money, as we have a huge move ahead of us, Christmas and the dog just had surgery, and the list kept getting piled on.

"Without a thought, while I was calling my wife, he just ordered the brake calipers and rotors. Said 'Hey, my goddaughter isn't gonna ride in danger, and dammit man, without you, I'm all alone'. I truly am blessed to have a great friend."
