Spurs star Brennan Johnson donated the money so 150 meals could be cooked on Christmas Day, and given to the homeless.

Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson showed his remarkable generosity by paying for 150 Christmas Day meals for the homeless and emergency service workers in his home town of Nottingham.

The 22-year-old, who left Nottingham Forest to join Spurs for £47.5million in the summer, helped out the people in his hometown at Christmas as he donated all the meals for a local charity. Guru Nanak's Mission provide hot meals to anyone homelessness or facing food insecurity in the Nottingham area.

In the build-up to Christmas, the charity packed over 150 food parcels and delivered 200 donated new toys to families struggling, while cooking and delivering 150 meals on the day. It has been revealed that those meals were paid for by Johnson, who helped make it happen.

Bal Bansal, who is a member of the charity, took to social media on Christmas Day to thank Johnson for his generosity. He tweeted: "Oh, wanted to say a huge Thank You to Brennan Johnson who donated all the money for the food that we cooked tonight! An awesome chap! 150 meals cooked for the homeless & some meals delivered to the A&E (doctors and nurses) & Fire and Police to say thank you for their hard work."

Johnson's work has since been praised by Tottenham and Forest fans alike on social media, while volunteers who served or delivered the meals tagged him in videos and photos.

A third said: "Some bloke. Happy he's not forgotten where he's come from." A fourth added: "What an absolute fantastic gesture well done Brennan Johnson." A fifth admitted: "He's one of our own. Brennan Johnson, he's one of our own! So, I'm glad he's not forgotten his roots. Lovely gesture. Well done to all involved."

Johnson remains greatly admired at The City Ground despite leaving the club in September. The Welshman helped fire Forest back to the top flight and scored eight goals in 38 appearances in his maiden Premier League campaign. That form was enough to earn him a big-money switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Johnson has impressed since he joined Spurs, despite scoring just once and grabbing three assists in 12 games.

Ahead of Johnson's first return to Forest earlier this month, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou praised the winger and admitted he is starting to find his best form. Postecoglou said: "We're really pleased with the way Brennan's developing.

"We're wary when signings come in late in the piece because they have to get up to speed with the way we train, the way we play, and he's had a couple of setbacks with little niggles so he hasn't really had a good run at it.

"But the last few weeks you can see he's starting to more than anything feel at ease with himself in what we're trying to do. Especially in that front third, you need the players to play with a bit more freedom, albeit at the same time he's taking in a lot of information."
